Following an intense competition with around 1600 applicants, the Ministry of Justice have appointed Trevor Meegan as a fee paid tribunal judge.
Gurdeep Garcha secures only acquittal in £2 million heroin importation trial
Gurdeep Garcha successfully defended a Walsall man accused of being part of an international heroin smuggling ring, following a trial at Birmingham Crown Court which lasted 9 days.
The prosecution followed a 2 year investigation by the National Crime Agency (NCA). The gang were responsible for smuggling 4 consignments weighing 20 kg of high purity heroin into the United Kingdom from Pakistan.
The case involved substantial intercepted telephone evidence as well as surveillance evidence of the gang.
The two other defendants charged with the offence were convicted by the jury and received very substantial prison sentences.
