Trevor Meegan's client cleared of attempted murder

Following a two week trial at Wolverhampton Crown Court, Trevor Meegan successfully defended a man charged with attempted murder. The Crown’s case was that the 17 year old had been involved in a “drive by” shooting in the Smethwick area. The defendant was said to have shot at the complainant twice using a sawn off shotgun. The prosecution case was that this was a gang related incident, but following defence submissions in legal argument before the trial, the court ruled that the Crown could not refer to “gangs” or “gang related activity”.
