Career background

Began legal career within solicitors offices, which included representing clients during interview / detention at police stations and the preparation of serious cases for instruction of Counsel and Crown Court trial.

Practice details

Since call to the Bar in 1997, has become a specialist criminal advocate with experience in a whole range of serious cases.   Receives instructions to defend in cases involving homicide, firearms offences and other serious non-fatal violence, importation and supply of drugs, money laundering, large scale fraud and all forms of dishonesty, rape and other sexual offences against adults and children (recent and historic, familial and non-familial).   Accustomed to dealing with cases with disclosure / PII issues.   Has significant experience of cases which require sensitive handling of vulnerable witnesses and / or defendants, whether the sensitivity arises from the nature of the allegations, or by reason of youth, learning disability or mental health problems.   

Regularly instructed in cases with complex factual background and / or many defendants. 

Recent instructions have included :

  • junior for the defence, in several murder trials 
  • various separate cases involving allegations of drugs-related kidnapping and violence
  • represented a defendant charged with rape of a prostitute, and following his acquittal represented him in a separate allegation of rape of another woman
  • represented a defendant charged with serious sexual offences against his son, daughter, step daughter, foster daughter and grandchild, over many years
