Gurdeep Garcha secures acquittal in ‘Moghul Durbar Restaurant’ stabbing case

  • News

Gurdeep Garcha successfully represented a man from Luton charged with conspiring together and with others to commit violent disorder, at Leicester Crown Court.

A 40-strong group raided the Moghul Durbar restaurant in Leicester in January last year, and three staff members suffered serious stab wounds. Simultaneous attacks were launched at 2 other private addresses in Leicester.

It was the Prosecution case that some members of the Sikh community had decided to exact revenge upon men from Leicester who were involved in the sexual grooming of a 16 year old Sikh girl. A meeting had been held at the Leicester Sikh Temple where it was alleged plans to attack addresses linked to the suspected groomers were settled.

Mr Garcha’s client accepted that he had been present during the meeting, but denied involvement in the conspiracy and did not go to the restaurant.

The jury found three men not guilty following a 4 week trial. A number of men have previously admitted involvement, some have been jailed and others are awaiting sentencing.
