Naomi Nelson-Cofie has successfully argued an appeal against sentence in the Court of Appeal.
Naomi, who was instructed by Ian Henery Solicitors, argued that her client’s sentence of four years imposed for robbery was excessive. The Court of Appeal agreed and reduced the sentence by nearly a half.
In delivering the judgement, Sir Robin Spencer observed that the Court “found force” in Miss Nelson-Cofie’s submissions, describing them as cogent. Mr Justice Spencer went on to comment that the Court had found Miss Nelson-Cofie’s written grounds “absolutely excellent”.
The case will be reported as an authority on the importance of Crown Court Judges accurately identifying the starting point when applying guidelines and expressing clear reasons for departing from the starting point.
