An 84 year old man has been convicted of killing his 82 year old wife.
The victim, Gian Bhandal, was found dead at her home address. She was initially thought to have died of natural causes, but a post-mortem examination revealed a catalogue of injuries consistent with having been attacked by multiple blows with a cylindrical weapon.
Pargan Bhandal was found to have killed her by a jury after a trial at Northampton Crown Court.
His health had deteriorated in the months after his wife’s death, to such an extent he was deemed unfit to stand trial.
The jury deliberated for less than three hours before finding that the defendant ‘did the act’.
Nicholas Berry was led by Peter Grieves-Smith of the Crown Prosecution Service.
