Robert specialised in crime throughout his career as a solicitor and was formally a partner in one the country’s largest criminal defence firms .

Practice Summary

Robert joined Citadel in November 2024 bringing wide ranging experience as a defence advocate in the Magistrates’ Courts, Crown Courts, and Court of Appeal. His long experience of advising in the police station and of general case preparation and client care  affords  valuable insights brought to bear when instructed to both defend and prosecute.

Details of practice

Robert is instructed in a variety of criminal proceedings.  He is a CPS Level 2 prosecutor. Robert has represented clients in cases covering the full spectrum of criminal defence and police investigations, from serious road traffic offences, public order and drugs offences to allegations of serious violence, rape and other sexual offences. Robert has extensive experience of all stages of a criminal case, both in court and outside of the court, from interviews under caution at the commencement of a criminal investigation to matters before the Court of Appeal.

Recent Cases

Represented a Defendant at trial for a dwelling house burglary where the case was dismissed at half time on application.

Represented a Defendant charged with death by dangerous driving

Represented a trainee teacher where D had befriended and groomed victim. D engaged in sexual activity with victim whilst they were still a pupil at the school 

Represented D who was charged with fraud and theft. D transferred money from client to own account directly. Initial values disputed. Representations made to reduce fraud amount and withdrawal of theft offence. 

Represented D who entered victims’ home having taken keys to the property from his employee. Confronted  in address by female occupant. D had masturbated into the underwear of the female occupant.

Witness Familiarisation Support And Courses

These are a few examples of courses in which our members have been involved:

  • Witness familiarisation with trainee police officers and special constables from Northamptonshire Police, where the officers were questioned regarding their statements about ‘mock’ arrest exercises
  • Similar exercises with detectives from the West Midlands Police
  • Witness familiarisation with officers of the Northamptonshire Probation Service.  These officers were given training on the process of giving evidence in sentencing hearings in the Magistrates Court and Crown Court
  • Expert witness familiarisation and training, with expert witnesses such as independent Forensic Scientists, and officers of the Health and Safety Executive. The exercises involved questioning regarding expert reports prepared by the participants

Maternity / Paternity Policy

We support all members  who  are fortunate enough to become parents.   Whilst Citadel has written policies dealing with issues of maternity and paternity leave for members of Chambers and support staff, we also try to be flexible in our approach and to accommodate individual needs.

Uniquely (to our knowledge) we offer direct financial support to members returning from parental leave in order to cushion the cash flow impact of return to practice .
