Manizja Latifi successfully defended a client at Wolverhampton Crown Court against allegations of controlling and coercive behaviour and intentional strangulation.
The defendant had previous convictions for rape and grievous bodily harm, which were before the jury during the trial. After approximately two hours of deliberation, the jury acquitted him of controlling and coercive behaviour and intentional strangulation.
He was convicted of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, arising from injuries described in evidence as love bites, and was sentenced to 16 weeks’ imprisonment.
The case involved sensitive, recorded material and highly prejudicial previous convictions, all of which required careful examination during the trial.
Manizja was instructed by Messrs Eden Legal Services.
