Career overview
Mia graduated from the University of Exeter, before completing the Bar Professional Training Course in Birmingham.
Prior to pupillage, Mia worked as a case progression officer for West Midlands Police. Mia undertook case management and associated functions in relation to a range of cases entering into and proceeding through, the criminal justice system.
Mia also previously worked as a County Court advocate, undertaking a variety of interlocutory and final civil hearings including trials and summary judgement applications, on behalf of both claimants and defendants.
Practice Summary
Mia joined Chambers in August 2023, after the successful completion of her 12 month pupillage, under the supervision of Nicholas Berry.
Mia practices in all areas of criminal defence and prosecution.
Mia is listed on the CPS Crown Court General Crime Panel at Level 1.
Details of practice
Crime
Mia is already developing a busy and varied crime practice, regularly appearing in the Magistrates’, Youth and Crown Courts. Mia has also appeared in the Court of Appeal Criminal Division, on behalf of the appellant, who was appealing against a sentence imposed by the Crown Court.
Mia has a reputation for meticulous case preparation, skilled witness handling and being able to make compelling submissions. Recently, Mia secured an acquittal for her client, who was charged with producing a controlled drug, in a multi-handed drug conspiracy Crown Court case. This was despite her client being absent from the proceedings.
During her pupillage, Mia frequently assisted members of chambers in complex criminal cases, including murder and sexual offences.
She has been consistently complimented upon her ability and approach.
