On 18th April, following a nine-day trial at Warwick Crown Court, Caroline Harris’ 20-year-old client was acquitted of ‘gang rape’, following a successful submission that there was no case for the defendant to answer. He and four other defendants were said to have taken a young woman to a Coventry hotel room under false pretences, to have intercourse with her against her will.
The case was removed from the jury’s consideration after the close of the prosecution case. The judge indicated that each defendant would have been looking at a custodial sentence of at least 12 years.
Miss Harris was instructed by Shane Hennigan Murray Brankin (trading name of Tuckers Solicitors LLP).
