A 21-year-old man has been acquitted of a firearms offence in connection with a fatal machine gun shooting in Winson Green. The defendant was represented by Curtis Myrie – instructed by M & N solicitors.
A dispute occurred between two rival groups at an industrial estate in Birmingham. The prosecution’s case was that the defendant drove back to the scene of the dispute, with a passenger armed with a sub-machine gun. Clear CCTV footage showed the passenger, wearing a bullet proof vest, exit the car and run into the industrial estate with the machine gun. The rival group, lying in wait with their own machine gun, shot the passenger dead seconds later.
The prosecution sought to identify the defendant as the driver through extensive CCTV and expert comparison evidence. Mr. Myrie successfully demonstrated to the jury that the identification and expert comparison evidence was flawed, resulting in the defendant’s acquittal.
