Gurdeep Garcha K.C. is defending a Black Country man charged with the murder of 16 year old who was stabbed to death in a street in Stourbridge Town Centre in July 2023.
The defendant is charged alongside three others. It is the prosecution case that the group were jointly in possession of a 22 inch machete. Following an initial altercation the deceased was chased down the street by the group and eventually taken to the floor, whereupon he was stabbed through the heart. It is alleged that the group assisted and encouraged the defendant who inflicted the fatal wound. Thereafter, the group are said to have disposed of the weapon, before travelling together to a party.
The defendant denies that he inflicted any violence upon the deceased and denies being part of a joint enterprise with the defendant who stabbed the deceased, who he asserts is wholly responsible for the killing.
The defendant, represented by Gurdeep Garcha K.C. leading Jas Mann (Equity Chambers, Birmingham) – instructed by Ranbir Mann of Mann & Co Solicitors – is being tried at Coventry Crown Court. The trial is expected to last 5 weeks.
