Following their conviction at Wolverhampton Crown Court in May of this year, three men have now been sentenced for their respective parts in offences concerning the possessing of a firearm with intent to endanger life, and the possession of class A controlled drugs with intent to supply, prosecuted by Graham Russell, leading Mia McNevin.
On 2nd November 2026, Adam Liaqat, age 19, received a 15-year custodial sentence for the firearms offence and four controlled drugs offences; while Asad Khan was sentenced in September to 13 years’ custody.
They were convicted for their roles in what has been characterised as a “botched shooting” in Smethwick when there was an accidental discharge of a firearm in the early hours of the morning of 23rd November 2025, causing serious injuries to Khan’s leg.
Yakubah Sawaneh, also 19, arrested alongside Liaqatt, was sentenced in September to 42 months’ detention for possessing controlled drugs with intent to supply.
The case attracted local national media attention:
Graham and Mia were instructed by the CPS West Midlands Serious Violence, Organised Crime and Exploitation Unit.
